Miss America Serves Day

On Saturday, April 16, the Miss Iowa Scholarship Program, along with Miss Iowa 2015, Taylor Wiebers, Miss Iowa’s Outstanding Teen 2015, Nina Yu, and local titleholders across Iowa will be participating in “Miss America Serves” – a national day of volunteering presented by the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. In support of the amazing service Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide every day, state and local titleholders, board members, family, and friends will rally their communities to participate in volunteer events around the country. Donations will directly impact each area in which these events are held, benefiting local children treated at member hospitals in our own communities. On this phenomenal day of service, Taylor and Nina will be hosting a service project with Gems of Hope in Iowa City. Gems of Hope, Inc. is a local non-profit organization that brings hope to cancer patients and their families through handcrafted inspirational gifts, workshops, libraries, and youth programs. Sharing inspirational quotes and support provides true “gems” of encouragement as patients battle through treatment and beyond. Taylor and Nina and the Miss Iowa Board of Directors will participate in this event on April 16 at Beadology in Iowa City from 4:00 – 5:30 pm. They will be creating handmade cards and earrings for cancer patients in the Iowa City area, spreading the word about the great work of Gems of Hope, and raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
