Bookkeeper

We are looking for a dynamic, skilled team member to manage the financial and accounting operations. Gems of Hope is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to bring hope to cancer patients and their families. This flexible part-time position will average 5 - 10 hours per week depending on the time of year and various needs of the organization.

Responsibilities/ Job Duties:

Process accounts and incoming payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures
Perform financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, computing, posting, and recording accounts receivables data
Prepare invoices for payment
Reconcile banking and investments accounts
Verify and resolve discrepancies in client billing issues
Generate financial statements and reports
Assist with budget planning and implementation
Process biannual payroll entries, payroll tax, and employee benefits
Document financial transactions by entering account information
Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options, oversee CD investments for Gems of Hope
Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
Maintain financial security by following internal controls
Prepares payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements
Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulation
Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping financial information confidential
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Other duties as assigned
Reports to the Executive Director

Job Requirements:

Proven working experience as accounts payable clerk or accounts receivable clerk
Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles
Proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records
Proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records
Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software
Proficiency in MS Office and Quickbooks Online
Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Skilled in Finance, Accounting, or related equivalent experience
Nonprofit experience is highly desirable
