Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women. The best way to beat it is to detect the cancer early with our Lung Cancer Screening program.
Lung cancer screening is effective for diagnosing lung cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage. The Helen G. Nassif Community Cancer Center, together with UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital, offer an accredited Lung Check Program.
Lung Check Is Recommended For:
- Men and women ages 50 to 77
- Who have smoked at least a pack a day for 20 years or more or two packs a day for 10 years
- Current smoker or anyone who quit smoking less than 15 years ago and smoked one or more packs a day for 15 or more years
FAQs
Lung Check includes a CT scan of the chest which is a quick, non-invasive test that uses low doses of radiation to provide 3D images of your lungs in seconds. Patients are also given a lung cancer risk assessment, personalized cancer reduction and healthy lifestyle education as well as smoking cessation information.
All tests are performed at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital during one appointment.
Plan on the appointment lasting about one and a half hours. The Lung Care Coordinator will meet with you before your test and confirm when your results will be available.
